LB Haringey - Public Health - 015This spring Haringey is kicking off with a Weekend of Play to encourage children to get the 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity they need each day.

Children can take to the streets or head to their local park for some free fun during Haringey’s Weekend of Play, from Friday 28th April – Sunday 30th April.

Play sessions will be on offer at parks including Albert Road Rec and Lordship Rec, while local schools will also be getting involved. Events are totally free and open to families from the borough.

Free Play Streets taster sessions are also on offer – giving people living in residential streets the chance to close their road to traffic for up to three hours to allow children to play safely in the street – and hopefully inspiring more parents to take up the idea!

Weekend of play events

  • Jackson’s Lane circus skills in the park
  • Parks and community / voluntary group’s partnership play sessions
  • Lordship Recreation Ground
  • Albert Road Recreation Ground
  • Doncaster Gardens
  • The Selby Trust

The Weekend of Play is supported by Haringey’s Obesity Alliance, aiming to tackle childhood obesity in a fun and practical way by promoting healthier living. Being active through play can also help our children to build social skills, boost self-confidence, improve bone and heart health and maintain a healthy weight.

It will be launched by Cllr Elin Weston, Cabinet Member for Children and Families, at schools across Haringey on Friday April 28.
